본 논문은 일본의 지리 평가에 대한 외형적 및 내용적 특성을 고찰한 것이다. 주요 분석 자료는 최근 5 년간(2004-2008년도) 일본의 대학입시센터시험「地理B」에 출제된 문항들이다. 먼저 일본 지리 평가의 외형 적 특성으로는 편집 방식 면에서 한쪽 당 한두 문항이 제시되는 책자형 방식을 취하고 있다는 점, 문항 구조 면에서 큰 주제 아래에 하위 소재 문항들이 포섭되는 대문-소문식 세트형 구조를 가지고 있다는 점, 문항 요 소 면에서 단위 문항은‘대문-모자료-소문-답지’등 네 요소로 구성되어 있다는 점 등을 확인할 수 있었다. 내용적 특성으로는 행동 영역 면에서 지식형과 탐구형 문항 간 비율적 조화를 이룸으로써 고등학교 학업 성취도와 대학 수학 능력 정도의 측정이라는 양대 목적을 균형적으로 추구하고 있다는 점, 주제 영역 면에서 지리 교과의 전형적인 주제에 대하여 단원 균형적이고 교과 망라적인 출제를 지향하고 있다는 점, 제시 자료 면에서 다양한 시각·공간 자료가 활용되는 가운데 지도 자료가 점증하는 추세를 보여 왔다는 점 등을 확인 할 수 있었다. 한편, 일본에서는 매년 센터시험 각 과목에 대한 고등학교 교사, 관련 학회, 그리고 출제 위원 회 등 3자의‘평가보고서’가 작성 및 공개되어 그 발전적 대안을 모색하고 있었다.
Abstract
This study aims to elucidate the features of Japanese geography test from the perspectives ofform and content. For this study, ‘Geography B’ parts of Japanese College Scholastic Aptitude Test from2004 to 2008 were examined. With regard to the formal aspect, Geography B had a booklet format (A4size) and in each page, one or two questions were presented. Each question was consisted of a set. Eachset had a direction for the whole set followed by instructive materials, sub-questions, stem items andmultiple choices. With respect to content, the following features were found. First, the test aimed to measure bothstudents' current academic performance and their capability of studying at university by proportionallybalancing knowledge-oriented and inquiry-oriented questions. Second, the test comprehensively coveredquintessential theme of geography. Lastly, visual-spatial materials had been used for the test items. Thefrequency of using maps in the test is recently increasing. Every year the Japan Board of SAT has been trying to figure out better ways to improve the geographytest based on the reports from geography teachers, academic associations of geography and geographyeducation, and the test-making committee.
