Abstract

This study explores the cognitive transition patterns of pre-service teachers after completing a mandatory “Digital Education” course. Through qualitative content analysis, these transitions were classified into five types, including maintenance, elaboration, expansion, perspective transformation, and complex, across five domains: educational purpose, teacher role, learner role, instructional method, and assessment. Structural changes in educational thinking were traced by comparing pre- and post-course reflective journals. Findings reveal that the course served not merely as digital skills training but also as a venue for reflecting on core educational values and pedagogy. The complex transition type predominated, reflecting the restructuring of existing beliefs through integrated experiences. Perceptions of educational purpose evolved toward human-centered interpretations of digital technology. The teacher role expanded to include learning design and emotional facilitation. Learners were reconceived as self-directed and collaborative agents. Instructional methods incorporated AI tools, metaverse activities, and prompt based strategies. Assessment practices shifted from outcome-focused to formative and growth-oriented approaches. These results suggest that digital teacher education should foster reflective thinking, alongside technical proficiency. The study illustrates how “Digital Education” courses can support philosophical and pedagogical development, supporting pre-service teachers in reconstructing their professional identity and instructional judgment.
