지리정보시스템은 최근의 교육과정에서 지리정보의 중요성 그리고 정보통신기술을 활용한 수업을 위해 강조되고 있다. 그러나 지리정보시스템을 학교수업에서 실제로 활용하기 위해서는 컴퓨터 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 구비하는 문제 그리고 교사와 학생들이 복잡한 소프트웨어를 익히기 위해 상당히 많은 시간을 투자해야 한다는 어려움이 있다. 또한 지리정보시스템은 도입된 기간도 길지 않아 교사들이 충분한 훈련을 받지 못한 실정이다. 본 논문은 이러한 현실적인 장애에 비추어 지리정보시스템 교육 그리고 지리정보시스템을 활용한 지리교육을 위한 최소한의 기본 개념과 기능에 기초한 예제를 제시하여 실습수업의 가능성을 높이고자 하는 목적을 가진다.
Abstract
Geographic information systems have become important in the current curriculum which emphasizes geographic information system for the geography and other subjects education. Several barriers, however, have been discussed such as budget restraint for purchasing hardware and software, and time to learn GIS software for classroom exercises. In particular, teachers' lack of training could be another important barrier to teach and utilize GIS. The purpose of this paper is to select essential GIS concepts and present exercise examples to be possibly used for teaching GIS and teaching geography with GIS. It is to make the GIS class practicable despite the current constraints.
