사회과 교육과정 구조가 교과서 다양성에 미친 영향 : 제7차 교육과정과 2007년 개정교육과정의 중학교 지리영역을 중심으로

본 연구는 제7차 교육과정과 2007년 개정교육과정에 따라 개발된 중학교 사회교과서를 대상으로 교육과정 구조가 교과서 다양성에 미친 영향을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제7차 교육과정에 비하여 2007년 개정교육과정의 성취기준 수는 절반 정도로 줄었으나 구체성에는 차이가 없었다. 그리고 2007년 개정교육과정은 제7차 교육과정보다 학문적 위계에 유연하게 대처하는 내용조직방식을 취하고 있다. 둘째, 2007년 개정교육과정에 따른 교과서들이 제7차 교육과정에 따른 교과서들보다 형식적인 측면에서 다양하게 조직되었다. 셋째, ‘인구’ 관련 단원에서 나타난 개념 수를 비교한 결과 제7차 교육과정이 1쪽 당 약 1개의 개념을 제시한 반면, 2007년 개정교육과정에서는 2쪽 당 약 1개의 개념을 제시하였다. 마지막으로 탐구활동을 비교한 결과 2007년 개정교육과정에 따른 교과서는 제7차 교육과정에 따른 교과서보다 일상생활에서 경험할 수 있는 사례를 이용한 탐구활동이 다양하게 제시되었다. 이를 통해 교육과정 대강화는 교과서의 형식적 다양성을 이끌었고, 내용조직방법의 변화는 내용의 다양성을 이끌었다는 것을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the impact of curriculum structure on textbook diversification focusing on the Social Studies textbooks developed in the 7th National Curriculum and the 2007 Revised National Curriculum. The findings are as follows. First, although the number of standards in the 2007 Revised National Curriculum became half of those in the 7th National Curriculum, there was no difference between the two curriculums in terms of how specific the standards were. And the 2007 National Curriculum is less dependent on hierarchical system of geography than the 7th National Curriculum. Second, textbooks produced in the 2007 Curriculum were more diverse in terms of formation than those produced in the 7th Curriculum. Third, as a result of comparing the two curriculums in terms of the number of concepts in the population chapter, the 7th Curriculum showed 1 concept per 1 page whereas the 2007 Curriculum showed 1 concept per 2 pages. Fourth, as a result of comparing exploring activities of the two curriculums, textbooks produced in the 2007 Curriculum suggested various exploring activities based on everyday life experiences than those in the 7th Curriculum. In conclusion, sliming of curriculum results in diversity of textbook organization and the change of content organization method leads diversification of contents.
