인정개념은 1980년대 이래로 자신의 정체성을 인정받고자 하는 사회적 소수자들의 정치적 투쟁이 사회 운동의 새로운 흐름을 형성하면서 이론적 논의의 대상이 되었다. 이러한 논의에서 악셀 호네트는 인정개념을 철학의 제반 문제에 적용함으로써 인정개념 자체를 새로운 철학적 패러다임으로 만들었을 뿐만 아니라, 이를 근거로 새로운 사회비판모델을 정립하고 있다. 그러나 사회적 인정을 사회비판의 규범적 토대로 삼는 호네트와는 달리 사회적 인정을 기존 사회에 복종을 유도하는 이데올로기적 도구로 보는 시각이 등장한다. 본 글에서는 이러한 두 가지 시각이 가능한 이유가 인정 개념의 이중성에 있다고 보고 이를 규범적 정당화, 행위모델, 자유, 사회적 기능이라는 제 가지 차원에서 해명한다. 그리고 이러한 이중성은 투쟁을 통한 사회적 인정질서의 확장이라는 역동적 사회발전 과정 속에서 서로 매개될 수 있음을 밝힌다.
Abstract
The concept of recognition has become the subject of theoretical discussions, since the political struggles of social minorities for the recognition of their identities have formed the main stream of new social movements. In the discussions Axel Honneth makes the concept of recognition a new philosophical paradigm to apply it to various problems of philosophy and develop on the ground of recognition concept a new model of social critic. But against Honneth who regard the social recognition as the normative basis of social critic appears the theoretical position which regard it as the ideological implement to induce the social members to subordinate to the existing oder of the society. I think that the cause of the diverse interpretations of social recognition lies in the duplicity of the recognition concept which is to explain in four dimensions: justification, model of action, freedom and social function. I will present the thesis that the duplicity of recognition concept is to intermediate through dynamical social evolution which aim at the expansion of social recognition.
