이 논문의 일차적 목적은 악셀 호네트와 낸시 프레이져 사이에 진행된 ‘인정과 재분배’의 관계를 둘러싼 논쟁을 검토하고 평가하는 데에 있다. 나아가서 필자는 이에 기초하여 이러한 검토 및 평가가 한국사회 갈등 구조를 파악하는 작업에 대해 의미하는 바가 무엇인지를 살펴볼 것이다. 이를 위해 이글은 먼저 낸시 프레이져가 제안하는 이차원적 정의관과 관점적 이 원론에 기초한 사회이론을 검토하고 나서 악셀 호네트의 인정 일원론 및 그에 기초한 사회이론을 검토할 것이다. 낸시 프레이져는 인정과 재분배의 관계에 대한 종합적 파악을 위해서는 각각의 독자성을 인정하는 이원론적 관점이 요구된다고 주장하며, 호네트는 이에 대해 그의 인정 일원론의 틀 안에서 인정과 재분배의 문제에 대한 포괄적 해명이 충분히 가능하다고 맞서고 있다. 논쟁에 대한 평가에서 필자는 먼저 비판이론의 규범적 기초 설정과 관련된 도 덕이론 차원에서 호네트의 인정이론이 저항주체들의 요구에 심층적으로 뿌리박고 있다는 점에서 강점을 가지고 있음을 지적할 것이다. 다음으로 사회이론 차원에서는 프레이져의 지적과 같이 재분배 문제에 대한 포괄적 해명을 위해서는 인정질서 외부에 존재하는 경제 체계에 대한 주목과 분석이 필요하다는 점을 지적할 것이다. 이들의 논쟁은 현대사회 갈등 구조의 포괄적 이해를 위한 모범적 시도를 보여줌으로써 한국사회 갈등 구조를 종합적으로 진단하는 데에서도 중요한 참조 사례가 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
The main aim of this thesis is to examine and evaluate the controversy between Nancy Fraser and Axel Honneth, which dealt with the relation of recognition and redistribution. The further aim of this thesis is to find a meaning of this controversy in the context of Korean society. To fulfill this aim, firstly I examined Fraser's dual concept of justice and her social theory, which is based on perspectival dualism, and then Honneth's monistic theory of recognition and his social theory based on it. While Fraser insists a dual perspective theory in order to see the complex relation of recognition and redistribution, Honneth argues that his monistic theory of recognition can encompass the problem of redistribution I think, Honneth's theory of recognition has an advantage in the level of moral theory. His theory can give a normative standard for a critical social theory which is deeply rooted in the demands of resisting subjects. But his theory has a shortcoming in the level of social theory. we must admit the economic system integration outside a recognition orders in order to fully explain and treat the problems of redistribution. This controversy gives a model case for understanding the complex conflict structures of contemporary society. So It can give help to the attempts for diagnosing the conflict structure of our society.
