이 글의 목적은 ‘여성주의(feminism)’라는 프리즘을 통해서 기존의 정의론에 대해서 제기되고 있는 도전들은 과연 무엇인지에 대해서 고찰해보고, 이에 기초하여 여성주의와 정의론 사이의 바람직한 관계를 모색하는 데에 있다. 정의론과 여성주의 사이의 관계에 대한 논의를 진행하기 위해 이글에서는 미국의 대표적 여성주의자인 아이리스 영(Iris Marion Young)의 작업에 초점을 맞추어서 정의론과 여성주의 사이의 관계를 고찰한다. 여기서 중심이 되는 내용은 정의에 관한 기존의 분배 패러다임에 대한 비판, 지배와 억압이라는 범주에 대한 분석 그리고 이에 기초한 차이의 정치의 개념을 살펴보는 것이다. 마지막으로 영의 작업에 대한 비판적 검토에 기초하여 오늘날 우리에게 필요한 것은 여성주의와 규범적 보편주의 사이의 불화가 아니라 공존이라는 사실을 제시한다. 여성주의적 개입과 비판을 포용해낼 수 있을 때, 정의 담론은 비로소 그 보편주의적 생명력을 제대로 발휘할 수 있을 것이며, 여성주의 역시 보편주의와의 대립을 넘어 보편주의와의 화해를 모색할 수 있을 때 스스로의 입장에 대한 궁극적 정당화가 가능할 것이다.
Abstract
The Aim of this thesis is to examine the challenges to existing theory of justice through the prism of feminism and to suggest a desirable relation between theory of justice and feminism. This thesis treated the works of Iris Marion Young, one of the main feminists, to examine the relation between theory of justice and feminism. Here the main themes were the critique of distributive paradigm of justice, the analysis of the concept of domination and oppression, and the examination of the concept of the politics of difference. Finally, I argued, it is not conflict but cooperation between theory of justice and feminism that we need today. When the discourse of justice can include feminist intervention and critique, it will be able to recover its vitality. When feminism can cooperate with normative universalism, it will be able to secure the foundation to justify its normative standpoint.
