하위 계급을 지칭하는 서발턴은 스스로 자신을 표현하지 못하거나 주체화하지 못하는 정치적으로 무능력한 집단을 의미한다. 그러나 서발턴의 정치적 무능력은 외부적 요건들에 의해 강제된 것이다. 따라서 서발턴은 자신의 문제를 정확하게 인식하고, ‘나’가 누구라는 자기 정체성을 명확히 알아야만 한다. 정치적 세력화를 확장하기 위해서는 자기 존재를 인식하고 집단들 간에 서로 다르다는 것을 이해해야 한다. 서발턴은 다양하고 중첩적일뿐만 아니라 유목적인, 다시 말해서 개방적이고 변화가능한 성격의 정체성을 필요로 한다. 서발턴의 유목적 정체성은 스스로를 재현함으로써 정치적 행위 주체가 되어 연대할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 그리고 서발턴들의 연대는 역사적 블록화를 통해 대항-헤게모니를 구축하고 정치적 행위 주체로의 변혁을 가능하게 할 것이다.
Abstract
Subalterns refer to a group of politically incompetent people who fail to express themselves or internalize themselves. But the political incompetence of Subalterns are enforced by external requirements. Therefore, Subalterns should clearly identify his own problems and identify his identity clearly. To expand political power, one must recognize that it is aware that it is different and that it is different between groups. Subalterns require identity of nomadic as well as overlapping features. That is nomadic identity. Nomadic identity of the subalterns provides an opportunity to develop solidarity as a group of opposing groups of ruling classes. And their class solidarity builds the counter-hegemony through the historical bloc and makes it possible to transformation as the subject of the political action.
