Abstract

In light of the need for proactive responses and problem-solving in the face of rapid social and environmental changes, the increasing global competitiveness of K-content as a cultural industry, and the realization of personalized gifted education tailored to individual learners, there is a growing consensus that gifted education in the humanities and social sciences should be sustained and expanded. While policy support is essential for revitalizing this field, it is even more crucial to continuously evaluate and improve the appropriateness of existing gifted programs in the humanities and social sciences. Accordingly, this study aims to provide meaningful implications for improving the content structure of gifted education in these areas by analyzing and comparing current program contents from the perspective of future competencies proposed by the OECD. To this end, five experts holding doctoral degrees in Korean language education, social studies education, and gifted education conducted a Curriculum Content Mapping (CCM) analysis of existing gifted education programs in the humanities and social sciences. The analysis revealed an overall low degree of alignment with OECD’s future competencies. Notably, the specific competencies that showed higher relevance differed between language arts and social studies. Competencies such as communication based on literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving were relatively well integrated, whereas competencies like data literacy and financial literacy were scarcely reflected. Based on these findings, the study emphasizes the need to systematically incorporate affective and integrative competencies into the future content framework of gifted education in the humanities and social sciences to better address the demands of a changing society. Furthermore, the study offers practical suggestions for policy-level support and highlights implications for educational institutions and instructors responsible for gifted education.
