초록

國語 히아투스 回避에 관련한 音韻過程들 간의 共謀性은 分節音을 바탕으로 하여 音韻現象에 접근할 때 나타나는 槪念的인 派生物일 뿐이다. 히아투스 회피의 音韻論的 動因은 [-back], [-high], [+round]와 같이 음운론적으로 能動的인 機能을 수행하는 音韻資質들을 중심으로 분석할 때 명확하게 捕捉될 수 있다. 制約 중심의 이론적 틀 속에서는 히아투스 회피에 관련한 음운과정들 사이의 공모성이 母音 資質의 實現을 管掌하는 제약들과 有標的인 音韻 構造나 連鎖를 방지하는 제약들 간의 상호작용을 통해 체계적으로 분석될 수 있다. 특히 국어에서 能動的인 음운론적 기능을 수행하는 음운자질들의 실현을 요구하는 MAX-[-back], MAX-[+round], MAX-[-high]와 같은 充實性 制約들과 히아투스 회피의 출력형들이 위반하게 되는 ONSET, Seg-Int,*CG, DEP 등의 有標性 制約들 간의 位階關係의 결과라는 사실을 명확하게 확인할 수 있다.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to elucidate the phonological con- spiracy among several hiatus-resolving processes such as vowel deletion, glide formation, glide insertion, and vowel coalescence in Korean. It is argued in the present study that such conspiracy is a kind of epiphe- nomenon derived from the segment-based approach to phonological phe- nomena. The fundamental properties including phonological motivation of hiatus resolution can be more succinctly captured, based on the aspect of surfacing phonologically active features such as [-back], [-high], and [+round]. The constraint-based Optimality-theoretic framework provides a sys- tematic analysis of the correlation among hiatus-resolving processes by the ranking relation between featural faithfulness constraints and sequential markedness constraints. ONSET, MAX-[F], Seg-Int, *CG, and DEP are especially active constraints in Korean hiatus resolution. The constraint MAX-[F] centering in constraint interaction can be divided into two sub- constraints; a group of MAX-[-back], MAX-[-high], MAX-[+round] and a group of MAX-[+back], MAX-[+high], MAX-[-round], the former dominates the latter in the constraint ranking system. The optionality displayed by vowel coalescence, glide formation, and glide insertion is a natural result of the equal(undecided) ranking relation among constraints such as ONSET, Seg-Int, *CG, and DEP
