초록
This paper argues that vowel harmony in the contexts of -deletion and vowel contraction can be accounted for with a set of constraints at the output level without necessarily imposing restrictions on the underlying forms of the suffix-initial vowels. The enforcement of vowel harmony significantly contributes to ruling out various suboptimal candidates that result from hiatus contexts. The constraints employed to evaluate relevant output forms are independently well-motivated from previous studies. Some of them are general IO-faithfulness constraints to ban deletion of input vowels and positional versions of these general faithfulness constraints. The others are markedness constraints on features, OCP on vowel sequences, vowel harmony and hiatus resolution.
