Analysis of Inquiry Activities Presented in “Reproduction and Development" Unit in Life Science Textbooks under National Common Basic Curriculum

Abstract
This study is to analyze activities in “reproduction and development" presented in life field of science textbooks developed under National Common Basic Curriculum of the 7th curriculum. Nine middle school and eleven high school science textbooks were selected to analyse the types of inquiry activities. 29 activities were presented in middle school science textbooks, and 22 activities were in high school ones. Inquiry activities related to “reproduction and development" were much more in middle school than high school, but more ones per school hour were presented in high school science textbooks. Types of inquiry activities were not balanced according to publishers and school levels. Thus, it was concluded that inquiry activities should be constructed on the connection among them in developing science curriculum and textbooks.
