This study examines how inquiry activities are implemented in elementary science textbooks developed under the 2022 revised curriculum. Focusing on the ‘Life cycle of organisms’ unit in the first semester of third grade, it compares and analyzes inquiry activities across various publishers’ textbooks. The findings indicate notable differences in the content, quantity, and types of inquiry activities and questions. In particular, most activities required students to conduct hands-on experiments, surveys, discussions, or presentations to derive scientific conclusions. However, there was a disproportionate emphasis on experimental observations, surveys, and discussions, while expressive activities were rare and appeared only once or twice per textbook. Furthermore, writing and reading-based inquiry tasks were entirely absent. These results highlight the need for future textbook development to better foster students’ scientific thinking and skills.
