초록
This study explores counselors’ attitudes toward persons with disabilities and their effects on counseling through a literature review. Counselors generally have a more positive attitude than other groups of people toward people with disabilities. However, since negative social attitudes toward persons with disabilities are pervasive, counselors are at risk of being influenced and showing differential attitudes to various characteristics of persons with disabilities. Since counselors’ attitudes significantly influence counseling outcome, counselors’ awareness and effort to change these perceptions are necessary. Educational intervention can lead to positive attitude change for counseling majors. However, the current counselor education does not sufficiently reflect the discourse on disability, so it is necessary to systematize education on disability, disability simulation, and direct contact with individuals with disabilities.
