Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to grasp the representation of Zainichi Koreans in the documentary film Summer of Ibaraki and to consider what kind of representation of Zainichi Koreans presented by Korean producers from the point of view of collective other rules. Summer of Ibaraki is the first documentary film produced by a Korean director, showing students of Korean descent. In the movie, various scenes such as the traditional arts department and Zainichi Korean cultural groups performing at schools were depicted, but Zainichi Koreans were mainly expressed in the symbol of a ‘bridge’ that connects the home country and the country of residence through traditional arts. It can be said that by establishing this representation, the existence of non-bridging Zainichi Koreans is considered unsuitable, and the viewpoint of their existence or their culture retreats. Now, Majority will need to recognize the existence of Zainichi Koreans with their own culture beyond the borders of Zainichi Koreans and think about their new representation.
