연구 목적: 본 연구는 시각장애인용 박물관 전시물 해설의 특징을 파악하여 시각장애인의 박물관 접근성을 높이는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 기존 전시물 해설의 이해 정도를 알기 위해 기존 해설과 시각장애인용 해설을 각각 제공한 후, 시각장애인의 관람 만족도를 조사하여 그 결과를 토대로 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 내용: ‘보임’을 전제로 하는 기존 해설은 유물의 형태, 크기 등에 대한 시각적인 정보를 관객에게 제공하지 못한다. 이것이 시각장애인의 박물관 접근성을 저하시키는 요인이다. 기존 해설을 분석한 결과 설명적인 해설과 문어체의 사용이 원인으로 해석된다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 ‘구어화된 언어’를 사용하고, 전시물의 외형적인 특성을 입체적으로 그려볼 수 있도록 ‘상상 가능한 묘사’ 중심의 해설을 할 필요가 있다. 이러한 두 가지 특징을 가진 해설은 전시물에 대한 시각장애인의 이해 정도를 향상시킬 수 있을 것이다. 결론 및 제언: 시각장애인의 박물관 접근성을 높이기 위해서는 본 내용과 같은 차별화된 해설이 제공되어야 할 것이다. 향후 정량화된 결과로 이어질 수 있도록 이와 관련된 연구가 계속되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study is aimed at raising the accessibility of the visually impaired to exhibitions by analyzing the characteristics of exhibit commentary offered by museum. To understand their comprehension about exhibition, we offered the visually impaired two different types of exhibit commentaries; one for ordinary visitors and the other for the visually handicapped. We surveyed and analyzed their gratification level of each exhibit commentary. The exhibit commentary for ordinary people does not provide the visual information including shapes, and size of display because it assumes that visitors can ‘see’ what is exhibited. This assumption makes the accessibility of the visually impaired lower. We analyzed the ordinary exhibit commentary and concluded that its explanatory description and literary style can be blamed for the problem. The exhibit commentary needs to be transformed to be ‘verbalized language’, and ‘imaginable depiction’ to help the visitor with visually disturbance raise their comprehension of the visual characteristics of exhibition. The exhibit commentary with these two characteristics can raise the comprehension of the visually impaired for the exhibition. To raise the accessibility of the visually handicapped, the exhibit commentary should have these characteristics. This research is a stepping stone for the future research to construct quantified results in the future.
