재만조선인 항일투쟁노래의 과거와 현재적 의미 －<신흥무관학교 교가>를 중심으로
The Past and Contemporary Meaning of the Hangiltujaengnorae(Independence Songs against Japanese Imperialism)

In this article, I interpret the past and contemporary meaning of the Hangiltujaengnorae(항일투쟁노래: Independence Songs against Japanese Imperialism) in Hangiltujaengsigi-Noraejip(항일투쟁시기노래집: Japanese Imperialist Period Song Collection) and Chosunjok-Minyogokjip (조선족민요곡집: Folksong Collection of Chosun People), and the school song of Shinheung-Mugoan-Hakkyo(신흥무관학교: Shinheung Army School) gathered from2006-2007 fieldwork in Yeonbyoun(연변), China. The Hangiltujaengnorae in Hangiltujaengsigi-Noraejip and Chosunjok- Minyogokjip divide into three categories including Songs for Chosun's Independence from Japanese Imperialism, Songs for Class Struggle, and Nostalgic Songs. They present the purpose of independence and class strife as well as they function of education and enlightenment. I discuss the contemporary meaning of the Hangiltujaengnorae in terms of ethnic identity. We can especially see this in the school song of Shinheung-Mugoan- Hakkyo in which one of the Hangiltujaengnorae works as a vehicle for expressing ethnic identity. The reason is that the subject of 'independence' in the Hangiltujaengnorae is based on recognizing ethnic identity; therefore Hangiltujaengnorae functions to reveal ethnic identity in the present.
