Abstract
Among the anti-Japanese songs written and sung by the Korean people in Japanese colonial era, this study aims to create a song titled “Independence Army Song” based on the primary historical data of the time. Until now, the concept of an independent military song has been written in a broad sense, such as anti-Japanese songs, anti-Japanese music, and independence movement songs, but the independent military song covered in this paper is a narrow concept that is viewed as one of the types of anti-Japanese songs. Since the primary data such as the songbook were rarely found for these songs, the independence army song study has relied on the secondary data collated after liberation. However, in the recently released 「International Anti-Japanese Movement Data: Records of Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs」 data, many of the songs confiscated have been found. Based on these data, this paper analyzed the lyrics and tunes of “Independence Army Song” starting with “Yodongmanju”, “Independence Army Song” starting with “New Korea”, and “Naagase” and “Independence Army Song”, which were purposefully created by the Shanghai Independence Newspaper in 1920. As a result, it was confirmed that this song was created and sung in the northeastern regions of Manchuria and Primorsky Krai since the 1910s and was most widely sung by Koreans in Manchuria, Primorsky Krai, America, and China from the 1919 year, 3.1 Movement to 1945.
