예외상황의 표상과 내러티브의 윤리성― 촉각적 수용과 디지털시대 문헌학의 미래 ―

우리 사회 전반을 몇 년간 멈추게 하였던 코로나 바이러스의 영향으로 비대면 사회가 가속화되었기에 인간 이성이 알고리즘과 유튜브 속의 스토리텔링에 그 빛을 잃어 버리지 않을까 하는 우려를 낳고, ‘새로운 계몽’을 이야기하는 시점에 이르렀다. 표상의 규범성을 규정하는 (현실)지표성에 대한 논의는 문학의 허구성과 개연성의 문제의식과 그 연원에 있어서 맥을 같이 한다. 소위 ‘포스트모던한 모더니즘’이 설파한 메타-서사의 불가해성은 ‘뉴 노멀’의 일상성 회복이라는 시나리오에서는 빛 바랜 아날로그 사진의 모습으로 우리에게 다가온다. 페스트의 전파가 낳은 사적영역의 탄생이 근대 서사문학의 새로운 토대를 마련하였다면, 작금의 코로나 확산은 공간적으로는 과거의 팬데믹과 마찬가지로 서로 격리되어 있지만, 디지털 공간에서는 더욱더 밀접한 상황을 낳았다. 위기 상황에 대한 동일한 행동양상은 동일한 사유체계와 동일한 경험공간을 잉태하며, 동일한 경험은 잘 알려진 바와 같이 발터 벤야민의 논지에 따르자면 이야기/서사/스토리텔링의 전제 조건이다.아마도 알레고리를 둘러싼 문제의식은 이런 논의의 핵심사항을 ‘상징적’으로 보여준다. 고전적인 논의에서 보자면 지표성의 자의성이 강한 알레고리는 부정적인 평가를 받기도 하였으나, 역사적으로 보자면, 알레고리적 해석은 글자 그대로의 텍스트 해석에만 집중하던 중세적 문헌학 전통으로부터 벗어나 독자들에게 새로이 주변의 이야기들에 대해서도 눈을 돌리게 하였다.
Abstract
Expectations and concerns about the artificial conversational intelligence represented by ChatGPT are high. In particular, the interaction between cognitive ability and technology is of central importance. In this study, I would like to explain the critical attitude of the changing public towards the development of digital technology. Since media no longer just means the prosthetic extension of the human senses (McLuhan), the core of the discussion about artificial intelligence or ChatGPT can be viewed against this theoretical background by narrowing it down to the question of the self-awareness of the digital self. The young Lukács tried to read the fireflies of salvation in Dostoyevsky's literature at the moment of crisis of European civilization, as if in the crisis of the plague, a new genre of novels with an infinite sense of despair for the world was blossoming. It is the greatness and happiness of human consciousness that sublimates despair into the language of hope.
