이 연구는 엑스(구 트위터) 담화에 나타나는 직시 표현의 특징을 참여자 차원에서 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 엑스 담화에 나타나는 일인칭과 이인칭 표현을 분석하고, 면대면 담화에서 나타나는 일반적인 직시 표현과의 차별점을 파악하고자 한다. 이로써 의사소통 환경에 따른 직시 표현의 다면성을 확인하는 것이 본 연구의 목표이다. 엑스 담화의 직시 표현에서 나타나는 첫 번째 특징은 참여자의 유동성이다. 면대면 담화에서는 참여자의 역할이 현실 공간의 특정한 발신자와 수신자로 고정되지만, 엑스 담화에서는 발신자의 정체성이 유동적으로 변화하고, 수신자의 범위와 존재가 유동성을 띠었다. 엑스 담화의 직시 표현에서 나타나는 또 다른 특징은 직시적 투사와 용법의 확장이다. 직시적 투사의 확장은 표현적 차원과 기능적 차원에서 이루어졌고, 직시적 용법의 확장은 제스처 용법과 상징적 용법에서 확인되었다. 이로써 본고에서는 의사소통 환경에 따라 직시의 대상과 직시적 투사, 직시적 용법이 다양해질 수 있음을 밝혔다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the characteristics of deictic expressions in X (formerly Twitter) discourse, focusing on the participant dimension. In particular, it analyzes the use of first-person and second-person expressions in X discourse and highlights the ways in which they differ from the general deictic expressions typically found in face-to-face discourse. Ultimately, the study seeks to reveal the multifaceted nature of deixis as shaped by the communication environment. One salient feature of deictic expressions in X discourse is participant fluidity. In face-to-face discourse, participant roles are fixed in the physical space as sender and receiver. In contrast, X discourse exhibits a dynamic shift in the identity of the sender and fluidity in the range and presence of receivers. Another notable feature of deictic expressions in X discourse is the expansion of deictic projection and deictic usage. The expansion of deictic projection occurs on both expressive and functional levels, and the expansion of deictic usage is observed in gesture usage and symbolic usage. This study thus demonstrates that the referents of deixis, deictic projection, and deictic usage can all vary according to the communication environment.
