Abstract
This study explores the concept and structural characteristics of Hung-ji(凶地), or inauspicious sites, from the perspective of nature and life, and analyzes their types to understand their impact on human life and activity. Based on feng shui principles—particularly the concept of Jangpung- Deuksu(藏風得水) the research examines the spatial features and influence of such sites. Classical texts such as Cheongogyeong(靑烏經), Geumnanggyeong(錦囊經), Jiri Inja Suji(地理人子須知), Seolsimbu(雪心賦), and the I Ching(周易) form the foundation of the study. The importance of water(得水) in feng shui is also discussed. By presenting real cases of Yin-Yang Houses located in inauspicious areas, the study gives concrete form to abstract feng shui concepts and enhances its practical relevance. Findings show that when the flow of energy from the main mountain is blocked, the protective embrace of the landscape is weak, or water is not well-placed, Hung-ji characteristics become evident—often leading to negative effects on human life. However, such conditions can sometimes be improved through corrective feng shui methods (Bibo, 裨補). Thus, feng shui should be seen as an interactive spatial philosophy, with potential to inform not just personal well-being, but also architecture, culture, and environmental design.
