초록
Even though “asymmetry” is the concept as old as human’s history, it is not easy to define “asymmetric strategy.” It is because, while the term of “asymmetry” has been used in different meanings in studying revolution, terrorism, war, strategy, etc, there has been no attempt to integrate those asymmetric phenomenons into a synthetic “asymmetric strategy.” As a result, the concept of “asymmetric strategy” has still used by scholars with different viewpoints and different perspectives. This research reviews “asymmetric strategy” theoretically and attempts to synthesize those various concepts related to it. I will review the nature, definition, and characteristics of asymmetric strategy, analyse it in terms of level, dimension, and pattern, and examine how it has been applied to in historical cases of war. And, as a conclusion, I will suggest some measures to counter the asymmetric threat.
