Abstract

The military cooperation relationship that started in 1991 between Korea and Russia has cleared their hostile and antagonistic relationship of the Cold War period and has grown worthy of attention. The 6th Summit of Defense Ministers as well as the customary business affairs meetings between the Ministry of National Defense of both countries are currently being carried out. Also, a variety of military exchange, from the chief of each military to the administrative work, is in progress. Furthermore, the only defense industrial cooperation with neighboring countries is being actively carried out. With the success of the 1st and the 2nd Bulgom Project, the 3rd Bulgom Project is in progress and is playing a positive role in the overall cooperative relationship of both countries. However, there is definitely a limit to the development of the military relationship between Korea and Russia. This is because, it is still difficult to say that the trust between the two countries is solid and there is a possibility for change in the current friendly relationship, depending on the change in security. Therefore, we need to recognize the importance of Russia’s geo-politics and geo-economics of the 21st century and to cultivate an appropriate skill to respond.
