회색지대전략에 대한 국내 연구는 초기단계에 머물러 있으며, 대부분의 연구는 미중 전략경쟁의 맥락에서 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 회색지대전략의 기원을 분석하기 위해 먼저 기존 연구성과를 바탕으로 회색지대전략의 특징적 정의로 비대칭성, 점진주의, 모호성을 제시하고, 중국 전략사상과 역사에서 그 특징을 도출하였다. 그리고 시간적·공간적 관점에서 중국이 해양 회색지대전략을 운용하게 된 배경을 분석하고, 실제 남중국해와 동중국해 해상에서 어떤 양상으로 나타나고 있는지를 분석해 봄으로써 대한민국 안보에 지니는 함의와 대응방안을 제시한다.
Abstract
Domestic research on the gray zone strategy is only in the early stages, and most of the research is conducted in the context of the U.S.-China strategic competition. In order to analyze the origin of the gray zone strategy, this study presented asymmetry, incrementalism and ambiguity as characteristic definitions of the gray zone strategy based on existing research results, and derived its characteristics from Chinese strategic concept and history. In addition, This study present implications and countermeasures for the security of the ROK. by analyzing the examples of China's operation of the gray zone strategy from a time and space perspective and analyzing how it actually appears in the South and East China Sea.
