Abstract

This  study  examines  the  structural  relationship  between  investigators’  attitudes  toward  offender profiling  and  the  perceived  facilitators  and  barriers  to  its  use.  Based  on  survey  data  from  287  investigators, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) was conducted to explore how awareness, experience, and satisfaction  relate  to  willingness  to  use  profiling.  Results  showed  that  investigators  with  positive  attitudes were  closely  associated  with  the  facilitator  of  trust  relationship,  while  those  with  negative  perceptions were  linked  to  concern  about  direction  change,  uncertain  effectiveness,  and  non-intrusive  intervention. Investigators  with  low  awareness  or  no  experience  viewed  clear  procedures  as  a  key  facilitator.  These findings  suggest  that  the  perceived  utility  of  profiling  varies  structurally  depending  on  investigators’  prior experiences and attitudes. Enhancing collaboration and establishing clear procedures may strengthen the practical contribution of profiling in investigations.
