현직 경찰관의 퇴직준비 영향요인에 관한 연구

Abstract

Due to the various social changes such as acceleration of aging and the fading notion of lifetime jobs these days, retirement has been recognized as the start of a new life rather than a traditional perception that it simply means the end of work life and the beginning of seclusion. These social and perceptional changes along with the new concerns on retirement have made the retirement management be one of the important social issues. Nevertheless it is true that young men and women who enter the police and carry out their duties with a strong sense of responsibility in the tough environment do not be provided with sufficient personal and/or organized practice on retirement preparation. Based on such awareness this paper tries to measure the retirement attitude and expectation, and recognition of retirement preparation of police officers on service. From where the differences of those recognition are originated and what are the relationships between endogenous variables that affect retirement preparation are the important subjects of this study as well. The result of our analysis tells us that the police officers on service do not perceive retirement to be a pessimistic matter. It also shows us that the higher level of retirement attitude is exposed when their academic career is higher and when they have positive notions on their economic stability. This level is higher with police officers working in the metropolitan area than those in small towns. Regarding retirement expectation, approximately 63% of policemen seem to accept the retirement as a completion of their job career and/or an opportunity of new challenge. Such positive expectation on retirement appears higher with policemen serving in the small and middle sized cities. According to our analysis on the factors affecting retirement preparation, policemen working in the small and middle sized cities reveal higher level of recognition of retirement preparation. It also shows us that the more positive their expectation on retirement, the higher level of recognition of retirement preparation. These results along with other implications should be reflected in the effective retirement management of Korean police officers in the future.
