이 연구에서는 청소년 사이버 비방 경험에 영향을 미치는 요인에서 성별 차이가 어떻게 나타나는지를 살펴보았다. 특히, 사이버 비방의 가해와 피해 경험에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 함께 고려하여, 성별 차가 가해와 피해에서 어떻게 차별적으로 혹은 동일하게 나타나는지를 실증적으로 비교하였다. 분석을 위해 ‘청소년 사이버폭력의 유형분석 및 대응방안 연구’ 조사 자료를 이차자료로 활용하였고, 중학생과 고등학생 응답자료를 분석하였다. 사이버 비방의 전체 가ㆍ피해율을 살펴본 결과, 남자청소년이 여자청소년에 비해 높은 가ㆍ피해율을 보였다. 세부 유형별로 가해와 피해율을 살펴본 결과에서 직접 욕하기와 집중공격에서는 가해와 피해 모두에서 남자청소년이 높은 가ㆍ피해율을 보인 반면, 저격글은 여자청소년이 높은 가ㆍ피해율을 보였다. 또한, 사이버 비방의 가해 및 피해경험에 영향을 미치는 공통 요인으로서 자기통제력과 사이버 자신감은 남녀 청소년 모두에게서 중요하게 나타났으나, 학교급의 영향력은 여자청소년에게서만 유의한 차이가 있었다. 이 연구에서는 낮은 경험빈도수로 인해 사이버 비방 외에 다른 유형의 사이버폭력을 분석하지 못한 한계가 있다. 그러나, 가ㆍ피해율뿐만 아니라 가해와 피해에 영향을 미치는 요인에 있어서 남자와 여자청소년의 공통점 및 차이점이 있음을 확인하였고, 성별을 위험요인의 하나로 고려하기보다는 성별에 따라 구분되는 청소년 사이버폭력 예방정책이 필요함을 밝혔다.
Abstract
For several decades studies have persistently found clear differences on male and female youths on violent offending and victimization, known as gender differences in youth violence. This is not thoroughly examined in juvenile cyber verbal violence. The purpose of this study is to delineate the gaps in existing research on the gender difference on victimization and offending. For the analysis, data from “Analysis of types of juvenile cyber violence and research on countermeasures” were used as secondary data, and response of middle and high school students were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that male adolescents showed a higher experience rate than female adolescents as a total. In the analysis of detailed type, males show higher rate of victimization and offending in direct swearing and intensive attacks while females showed higher rate of victimization and offending in sniper text. Although there are some similarities in the predictors of male and female delinquency, differences also emerged. Level of self-control and cyber confidence are common predictors for both males and females, while variables measuring school level are stronger predictors for females only. The implications of these findings and suggestions for future research are also addressed.
