Abstract

This study focused on social problems arising in the process of locating probation offices. The biggest problem is the perception of local residents. Local residents have not been clearly aware of the probation office, as they often do not know where they are located as well as the duties of the probation office. Nevertheless, there is a negative perception of probation offices due to the formation of vague anxiety through media reports. In this regard, the position of the probation office is not very different. Since the electronic supervisory system, it seems that they are more oriented toward a passive attitude rather than an active promotion and awareness improvement. Therefore, this study attempts to identify the factors that influence the perception of probation officers and to identify what are important geographic characteristics in improving the perception of local residents. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that stimulating media coverage plays a decisive role in the passive attitude of probation officers. In addition, as a result of synthesizing the layers of areas related to the location of the Seongnam Probation Office through QGIS, it was confirmed that there are areas that are not closely related to geographic characteristics such as kindergartens, elementary schools, and school routes. It is possible to infer that the negative image of the probation center may have caused a larger regional revolt. In addition, it was confirmed that the perception of local residents and the media reports had a significant influence on the factors that influence the public relations perception of probation officers. Therefore, this study reveals what factors cannot be actively promoted even though it is a very necessary time to promote probation offices. Based on the research results, a strategy related to the promotion of the probation center was suggested.
