가시적 경찰활동 정도에 대한 인식이 범죄 두려움에 미치는 영향

초록

범죄두려움에 대한 선행연구들은 두려움을 설명하는 요인들로 범죄피해경험, 사회적/물리적 무질서, 사회통합 등에 초점을 맞추고 이루어져왔다. 기존 연구들이 경찰의 가시적 활동에 대한 인식이 범죄 두려움에 어떠한 영향을 주는 지에 대하여는 많이 주목하지 않았다. 또한 2003년 8월 지구대 체제로 전환한 이후 경찰의 가시적 도보순찰활동과 단속활동에 대한 국민들의 인식이 어떻게 변했는지 알아보는 것도 의미가 있다고 할 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 두 가지 연구목적을 위하여 전국에서 성별, 연령, 지역분포, 인구크기에 맞추어 할당 표집한 1,013명에게 설문조사 실시하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 분석결과 거의 절반에 가까운 사람들이 과거에 비하여 가시적인 경찰활동을 보는 것이 더 힘들어 졌다고 인식하는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 가시적인 경찰활동이 줄어들었다고 생각하는 사람들일수록 범죄두려움이 높게 형성된다는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 정책적 제안을 제시하였다.

Abstract

Previous studies on the fear of crime have focused on the factors such as victimization experience, social/physical disorder and social integration. Previous studies did not pay much attention to the visible police activities as a factor of fear of crime. Also, since the introduction of Jigudae system on August 2003, the examination on the perception of citizens regarding police foot patrol and citation issuing activities would be meaningful. In order to achieve the above two purposes of study, the current research used data with 1,013 participants. Survey data was collected based on quota sampling method considering gender, age, and the regional population size. According to the analysis results, almost half of the participants reported that it was harder to observe police foot patrol and citation issuing activities than the past. Also, as people perceive that visible police activities has been reduced, their level of fear of crime became greater. Based on the analysis results, the current study provided police implications.
