외국인 밀집지역의 가시적 경찰활동이 범죄두려움에 미치는 영향- 체감안전인식의 매개효과를 중심으로 -

초록

이 연구에서는 가시적 경찰활동과 범죄두려움의 인과관계 사이에 매개요인으로 거주지역에 대한 체감안전인식을 제안하고자 한다. 즉, 가시적 경찰활동에 대한 시민의 인식이 범죄두려움에 직접 영향을 미치는지, 또는 이러한 인식이 체감안전인식을 거쳐 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는지를 검증하는데 주된 목적을 두었다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 강소영 외 연구진이 ‘외사치안안전구역 체감안전도 측정모델 및 조사 연구(2016)’에서 수집한 자료를 2차 자료로 활용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가시적 경찰활동이 범죄두려움에 미치는 직접적인 효과는 유의하지 않는 것으로 나타나 단순히 가시적 경찰활동의 변화만으로는 시민들의 범죄두려움을 완화할 수 없음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 가시적 경찰활동이 체감안전인식에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 때 간접적으로 범죄두려움을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시민들이 가시적 경찰활동의 증가를 체감안전증가로 인식하는 경우 범죄두려움이 낮아진다는 것을 의미한다. 이 연구결과를 바탕으로 시민들의 체감안전인식이 증가할 수 있는 대민 친화적 경찰활동을 강화하여 범죄두려움을 관리할 필요가 있다고 판단된다.

Abstract

In this study, we propose a Personal Safety Awareness as a mediator between visible police activity and causal relationships fear of crime. In other words, the primary purpose of the test was to verify whether the public’s perception of visible police activity directly affects fear of crime, or whether this perception affects fear of crime through Personal Safety Awareness. To achieve the purpose of the study, researchers including Kang So-young used data collected from the ‘Safety Measurement Model and Research Study (2016) in the Foreign Safety Zone as secondary data. The results of the study are as follows. First, the direct effect of visible police activity on fear of crime was found not to be significant, confirming that simply changing visible police activity cannot mitigate the fear of crime among citizens. Second, it was found that visible police activity indirectly reduces fear of crime when it has a positive effect on the Personal Safety Awareness. This means that increased local security of visible police activity reduces crime fears. Considering the effectiveness of police activities in modern society, the issue of crime needs to be approached in a ‘managing’ way, not a ‘resolution’. Considering the problems of increasing fear of crime without experiencing crime directly, such as the increase of civic inconvenience in everyday life and the increased cost of criminal justice in order to alleviate this, this study can increase the sense of security among citizens.
