「주생전」의 국역본 2종은 각각 궁중과 민간이라고 하는 상이한 독자층의 문화를 전제하고 있다. 김일근본은 궁중에서, 묵재일기본은 사족가문에서 유통되던 이본으로서 각자 독자층이 확연히 달랐을 뿐만 아니라 두 이본 사이에는 문장표현상의 커다란 차이가 존재한다. 이러한 차이는 대상 독자층의 상이한 문화적 상황을 알 수 있는 지표이자 통로들이다. 본고는 2종의 국역본 「주생전」의 독자들에 초점을 맞추어 논의를 진행하였다. 먼저, 궁중에서 번역 유통되던 김일근본에서는 번역자의 검열의식, 시문의 독음과 현토 병기가 지닌 의미, 해학적 흥미소의 추가를 밝혔다. 다음으로, 사족가문에서 유통되던 묵재일기본에서는 본문 중의 주석과 순우리말식 문장표현이 지닌 의미, 독자의 낭송문화가 작품에 끼친 영향을 밝혔다. 마지막으로, 과거 독자의 시각으로 「주생전」 다시 읽기를 시도하였다. 이 작품의 특징으로 꼽히는 삼각관계 연애와 주생의 신분상승 욕망에 대한 기존의 시각을 비판적으로 검토하였다.
Abstract
The two Korean translation versions of 「Jusaengjeon」 presuppose the culture of different readers, the court and the civilians, respectively. The Kim Il-geun version were circulated in the royal court, and the Mukjae Ilgy version were circulated in the private sector. The two editions each had a distinctly different readership. In addition, there is a huge difference in sentence expression between the two versions. These differences are indicators and channels for knowing the different cultural contexts of the target readership. This paper focused on the readers of the two Korean translation versions of 「Jusaengjeon」 and proceeded with the discussion. First, this paper revealed the translator's censorship consciousness, the meaning of parallel writing of Korean sounds in Chinese characters, and the addition of humorous interest in the Kim Il-geun version, which were translated and distributed in the royal court. Next, this thesis revealed the influence of the commentary in the text, the meaning of the pure Korean-style sentence expression, and the reader's recitation culture on the work in the Mukjae Ilgy version, which were circulated in the private sector. Finally, this thesis attempted to reread 「Jusaengjeon」 from the perspective of the past reader. This work critically examines the existing perspectives on love triangle and the desire to rise in status.
