본 연구는 무역정책 불확실성이 해상운임에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해서, 무역정책 불확실성 지수와 해상운임의 관계를 벡터자기회귀모형 기반의 그랜저 인과성 검정을 통해서 분석하였다. 2000~2023년 기간 동안 월간 자료를 조사한 결과 3가지 실증분석 결과가 도출되었다. 첫째, 무역정책 불확실성은 전반적으로 해상운임에 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미국의 무역정책 불확실성은 해상운임에 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 벌크와 탱커의 운임은 무역정책 불확실성의 영향을 받는 것에 반해, 컨테이너 운임은 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of trade policy uncertainty on shipping freight rate. To this end, the relationship between trade policy uncertainty and shipping freight rate for the period 2000-2023 is examined in the Granger Causality tests based on the vector autoregressive models. The findings in this study can be summarized into three points. First, shipping freight rates are generally negatively affected by the degree of trade policy uncertainty. Second, trade policy uncertainty of the USA exerts a negative effect on shipping freight rate. Finally, while the negative impact of trade policy uncertainty on shipping freight rate holds for the bulk and the tanker sectors, there is no significant impact on the container sector.
