기후정치의 실패와 생태시민성: 토마스 베리의 인간 재창조를 중심으로

초록

본 논문은 토마스 베리의 생태철학을 중심으로 현대사회가 요구하는 생태적 전환과 인간 재창조 주제를 탐구한다. 이미 많은 이들이 토마스 베리의 문제의식에 공감하고 생태적 전환을 위한 다양한 노력을하고 있지만, 생태적 전환의 진행은 여전히 지지부진하여 기후변화 악화에 대한 우려가 커지고 있다. 이 논문은 기후위기를 해결해야 한다는 전 세계적인 합의에도 불구하고 전환이 더딘 이유를 검토하며 기후거버넌스의 성과를 비판적으로 검토한다. 분석 결과, 기후정치의 실패는 고립이 증가하고 관계가 파편화되고 단절되는 현대 문명의 구조적 문제에 뿌리를 두고 있다. 또한, 이 문제를 인식하는 맥락에서 돕슨의 ‘생태시민성' 개념을 재검토한다. 나아가 생태영성과 토마스 베리의 인간 재창조의 렌즈를 통해 생태시민성을 재규정한다. 결론적으로본 논문은 생태영성을 통해 상호의존성과 상호연계성을 인정하는 시민들의 적극적인 참여를 통해 기후정치와 거버넌스의 회복이 가능하다고 주장한다.

Abstract

This paper, centered around Thomas Berry's ecological philosophy, explores the themes of embracing ecological transformation and the demand for reinventing what is human in contemporary society. While many individuals already resonate with Thomas Berry's awareness of environmental issues and engage in various efforts for ecological transformation, the progress of ecological transformation remains sluggish, raising concerns about worsening climate change. This paper delves into the reasons behind the slow transformation despite the global consensus that the climate crisis needs to be addressed, critically examining the outcomes of climate governance. The analysis uncovers that the failure of climate politics is rooted in the structural issues of material civilization, wherein isolation increases and relationships become fragmented and disconnected. Additionally, within the context of recognizing this problem, Dobson's concept of 'ecological citizenship' is revisited. Furthermore, ecological citizenship is redefined through the lens of Thomas Berry's Reinventing the Human, specifically focusing on ecological spirituality. This paper contends that restoring climate politics and governance is achievable through the active involvement of citizens who acknowledge interdependence and interconnectedness through ecological spirituality.
