생태 문명으로의 전환과 신학적 전망: 유기체 철학과 토마스 베리를 중심으로

인류의 증가와 산업 성장이 지구의 수용한계를 넘어섰다는 분석이 제기된 이후 생태 위기는 환경개선의 접근으로는 해결될 수 없다는 결론에 이르렀다. 지속가능을 넘어 생존가능의 문제가 대두되면서 인간중심적 근대문명의 총체적 전환만이 바른 접근이라는 의견이 설득력을 얻고 있다. 문명 전환적 접근은 철학에 있어서 범경험주의 개념에 따른 탈인간중심적 주체성의 관점을 통한 유기체적 세계관이 설득력을 얻어가고 있다. 이것은 모든 존재자가 상호 연결된 유기체로서 그 공동체의 이상과 목적을 고려한다는 것이다. 그에 따라 인간중심의 문명은 자연을 포함한 모든 존재자의 문명으로 전환되어야 하며, 신은 이러한 세계의 진화의 목적으로서의 의미를 갖게 된다. 토마스 베리는 현대를 지구학적으로 ‘신생대’로부터 ‘생태대’라는 새로운 문명으로 전이되는 시기로 전망한다. 생명의 창조가 번성하였던 신생대는 인간중심적 진보의 왜곡된 신화가 생명 시스템에 피해를 입힘으로써 더 이상 창조를 지속할 능력을 상실하였다고 판단하였다. 그렇지만 지구의 역사는 문명의 전환을 통해 새로운 시대를 열어간다고 전망하며 그것을 ‘생태대’로 정의하였다. 그것은 정치, 경제, 문화, 종교를 비롯한 총체적 시스템의 전환이 필요한 시대이다. 생태문명은 분석적인 서양문명보다 포괄적인 동양문명에서 가능성을 발견한다. 통합적인 사고를 갖는 아시아의 종교성은 그리스도교가 아시아로 확장되면서 역으로 아시아 신학을 통해 새로운 생태문명을 갖는 언어로 거듭날 수 있는 축복이 될 수 있다.
Abstract
Environmental improvement could not be the solution for a modern ecological crisis. The transition of civilization is gaining persuasive power through an organic world-view of the perspective of post-anthropocentric subjectivity according to the concept of pan-experientialism. This means that all beings are interconnected, taking into account the ideals and purposes of the community. Accordingly, the anthropocentric civilization must be converted into a civilization of all beings including nature. God has meaning as the purpose of the evolution of this world. Thomas Berry sees the modern world as a period of transition from the "Cenozoic" to a new civilization called "Ecozoic." In the Cenozoic era, the distorted myth of anthropocentric progress has damaged the life system and lost the ability of creation. However, the Earth's history predicts that a new era will be opened through the transformation of civilization, and it has been defined as an “ecozoic”. We can find more possibilities in the Eastern way of thought than Western for Ecological civilization. The ethos of Asian religions can be a blessing for Christianity to be reborn for a new ecological civilization through the Asian way of theology.
