Abstract

This study is to review over both the scale reduction of royal family educational institution, which was executed after the Gabog- yeongjang, and the actual circumstances of the royal family education executed after the beginning of the Korea Empire era as well as to find out the truth about the new educational policy of Gojong(高宗. 26th King of Lee Dynasty) and the role of the Imperial Household, which were developed in the process of accommodation of new education and establishment of modern educational institution. Therefore, the education program and teaching method for the successor to the throne and the descendants of royal family and others were reconstituted based on the existing historical records. In addition to this, I have traced the changes and their historical background to find out the differences between the royal family education in the era of the Korea Empire, including Sigangwon(侍講院), Suhakwon(修學院), Jongin school(宗人學校), etc. and the Royal Family education in the era of the Joseon Dynasty. This will be a good chance to shed new light for GOJONG, who has not only been overshadowed by Heungseong-Daewongun, Myeongseong empress and the Enlightment Forces but also been humbled as an emperor of a ruined country.
