건국대소장 金谷園藏版 『第六才子書』에 수록된 評語의 『西廂記』 비평 방식 연구

Abstract

This paper aims to examine Jeyuk Jaejasŏ (The Sixth Genius Book, 『第六才子書』) marked “Edition in the Collection of Geumkokwon (金谷園藏版)” which is in the collection of the Kŏnkuk University Library in Korea, to study Josŏn literary men’s methods of criticizing Sŏsanggi (or Xixiangji, Romance of the West Chamber, 『西廂記』). And for this purpose, I compared closely, with those of writers from the Qing dynasty, Josŏn literary men’s commentaries on Sŏsanggi written in Jeyuk Jaejasŏ 『第六才子書』 which is in the collection of Kŏnkuk University. The following three characteristics are shown in the criticism of Sŏsanggi of the writers who wrote the commentaries on Jeyuk Jaejasŏ which is in the collection of Kŏnkuk University. First, the subjunctive mood was frequently used in the commentaries of Josŏn literary men. The frequent use of the subjunctive mood can be seen in relation to the writer’s viewpoint of the fiction. In other words, through using the subjunctive mood, the writer treated the affairs in the work as if they really had happened. Second, the writer often wrote personal sentiments. This is because the writer placed importance on the subtle feelings that occurred in his mind while appreciating the work. Third, the writer quoted verse from various books including scripture. In particular, quoting scripture in criticism can be attributed to the writer’s intention to break the boundary between the realm of ‘the elegant 雅’ and the realm of ‘the secular 俗.’
