淸朝와 朝鮮의 『第六才子書西廂記』 비평 비교 고찰

Abstract

This article compares Diliucaizishu Xixiangji(『第六才子書西廂記』) criticism in the Qing dynasty and the Joseon dynasty. The literati of the Joseon and the Qing wrote their commentaries on Jin Shengtan’s Diliucaizishu Xixiangji, and their commentaries differ in their intentions and methods. By reviewing the preface the Qing’s literati wrote, we can see that they worked on the critique to provide the unspecified readers with an accurate explanation on Xixiangji (『西廂記』). On the other hand, writers of Joseon valued personal appreciations of the work and wrote them down to share them with their acquaintances. In terms of the critical method, writers of the Qing mainly focused on revealing how beautiful and appropriate the expressions of the lines and the lyrics are, while the Joseon’s ’s literati mainly used the methods of evaluating or analyzing the words and actions of the characters revealed through the lines and actions. In addition, while the Qing’s literati often viewed a passage in connection with the whole or other part of the piece and criticized it in terms of narrative structure, the Joseon’s literati often viewed a scene independently and wrote appreciations for it. As such, by comparing the commentaries written by the literati of the Qing and the Joseon, we can understand more deeply about each other and find new values for each.
