Abstract

<Leemongwoojeon> is a classic Korean-language manuscript, which is unique to Dankook University. The original purpose of this research was to examine the creative method of this work and to deepen and expand understanding of the work and to examine the creative method used in Korean novels. There are two main characteristics to the creation of <Leemongwoojeon>. First, three films, <Chwichwijeon(翠翠傳)>, <Aegyeongjeon(愛卿傳)>, and <Sinyangdonggi(申陽洞記)>. which were included in the Chinese biographical novel ≪Jeondeungsinhwa(剪燈新話)≫, were applied. The name of the female character, Baegchwichwi, was <Chwichwijeon> and <Aegyeongjeon> was accepted as the shape of Baegchwichwi and the related narration. In addition, the story of <Sinyangdonggi> was adopted almost as it is. Further, the story of eradicating monkey monsters was set up, but this narrative was modified and added to suit the type of hero novel. Second, a military wall was formed by combining the four Chinese kingdoms of Huwi(後魏) and Huju(後周), Hulyang(後梁), Huhan(後漢), and Hudang(後唐). In particular, the power of the male and female protagonists was added to maintain tension through colorful military conversations in which a total of seven countries were engaged. The meaning of creation based on these two characteristics is as follows. First, <Leemongwoojeon> reflects the beauty of "tragedy," an emotion that runs through the ≪Jeondeungsinhwa≫, throughout the work. Second, <Leemongwoojeon> clearly shows the Korean color by maintaining the characteristics of hero novels in which male heroes dominate over female heroes in military talks.
