임성주의 인물성동이론 해석 고찰 -同論인가 異論인가-

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the interpretation of Nogmun(鹿門) Im Sung- joo(1711-1788)’s Inmulseongdongi(人物性同異) theory was established on the basis of his own criticism on both Namdang's Seongsamcheungseol(性三層說) and Oeam(巍巖)’s, that is, on his own interpretation of Jeongho(程顥)'s Saengjiwiseong(生之謂性). Nogmun(鹿門) interprets both the seong of humans and things as their bonnyeonjiseong(本然之性). For this reason, Nogmun opposes Nagnon's argument that interprets the bonnyeonjiseong of things as 'osang(五常)' like that of humans, and also opposes Horon(湖論)'s argument that interprets the seong of things as bound by gijiljiseong(氣質之性). This is the characteristic of Nogmun’s Inmulseongdongi(人物性同異) theory, which is distinguished from those of Horon‘s and Nagnon’s. Therefore, the seong(性) that Nogmun refers to is not the gijiljiseong(氣質之性) bound by gijil(氣質), but the bonnyeonjiseong granted by the heavens. In conclusion, Nogmun viewed the bonnyeonjiseong given to both humans and things by the heavens as not different but the same, which is the essential characteristic of his Inmulseongdongi theory.
