이항로의 인물성동이론 해석 고찰

본 논문은 화서(이항로, 1792~1868)의 인물성동이론에 대한 해석을 고찰한 것이다. 화서는 호락논쟁에 대해 어느 한쪽에 치우침이 없는 종합적․절충적 자세를 취한다. 예컨대 호론과 낙론의 주장을 동시에 인정하기도 하고, 또한 호론과 낙론의 주장을 동시에 비판하기도 한다. 이렇게 볼 때, 화서는 호론과 낙론에 대해 절충적 태도와 비판적 태도를 동시에 견지하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이를 통해 호론과 낙론으로 갈렸던 논변에 대해 객관적인 입장에서 양론을 종합․절충으로써 호론과 낙론을 모두 인정할 수 있는 논리적 기반을 확립한다. 그럼에도 리(주재)로써 심을 해석하는 그의 主理論的 경향에 근거할 때 ‘이론’보다 ‘동론’에 더 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. 리로써 말하면 사람의 성과 사물의 성이 같으며, 또한 성인의 심과 범인의 심이 같기 때문이다.
Abstract
This paper examines the interpretation of Hwaseo's(Lee Hang-ro, 1792~1868) theory of inmulsungdongi. Hwaseo takes a comprehensive and conservative posture that does not bias either side to the Horak debate. For example, the arguments of Horon and Nakron are recognized at the same time, and the arguments of Horon and Nakron are also criticized at the same time. From this point of view, it can be seen that Hwaseo maintains a compromise and critical attitude toward Horon and Nakron at the same time. Through this, it establishes a logical basis for recognizing both Horon and Nakon by synthesizing and compromising both theories from an objective standpoint for arguments that were divided into Horon and Nakon. Nevertheless, it can be seen that it is closer to 'same theory' than 'different theory' based on interpretation of the Juli theory. This is because a person's sung and a thing's sung are the same, and the fine person's mind and the common person's mind are the same.
