아시아 국가들 사이에는 경제성장 수준에 있어서 상당한 격 차가 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 관광수출이 경제성장에 미치는 영향에 관 심을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 소고는 1995년부터 2004년까지의 아시아 19 개 국가의 자료를 이용하여 관광수출이 경제성장에 미치는 영향을 실증적 으로 규명하고자 한다. 이를 위해 관광수출을 새로운 생산요소로서 명시 적으로 포함하며, 경제성장에 대한 대리변수로서 국내총생산을 이용한 신 고전학파 성장모형을 추정한다. 몇 가지 해석에 있어서 주의가 요구되긴 하지만, 본 연구결과는 관광수출이 경제성장에 통계적으로 유의하면서도 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 보여주고 있다. 다시 말해서 한 국가의 관광수출 증대는 국내의 경제활동을 증가시키고 이는 다시 소득의 증대를 가져온다 고 결론을 내릴 수 있다.
Abstract
There is a considerable gap in the level of economic growth among the Asian countries. We are interested in the impact of the international tourism receipts on economics growth. Therefore, this note attempts to explore empirically the impact using a cross-country analysis based on data from 19 Asian countries for the year 1995-2004. To this end, the neoclassical growth models, explicitly including the international tourism receipts, are estimated with the GDP used for a proxy for economic growth and the level of international tourism receipts considered as an input to production. Subject to the appropriate caveats, the results show that the level of the international tourism receipts make a significantly positive effect on economic growth. In other words, it is concluded that high international tourism receipts of a country increase economic activities and the increased economic activities in turn raise the real income of the country.
