지역을 기반으로 하는 히든챔피언에 집중한 연구는 상대적으로 매우 부족하다. 특히, 그들에게 내재되어 있는 위험 요인에 관한 분석과 논의는 더욱 찾아보기 힘들다. 이에 본고는 세계시장 1위 또는 국내시장 1위의 시장지배력을 확보한 ‘인천 지역 히든챔피언 9개 사’를 선정하여 이들에게 내재되어 있는 위험 요인을 분석하는 데 집중했다. 분석 결과, 내부금융에 의존하는 경향이 상당히 강하다는 점, 내부자 중심의 기업 소유구조를 구축한다는 점, 이사회의 사외이사들은 매우 소극적인 성향을 보인다는 점을 발견했다. 이러한 발견은 기업의 외부 주체에 의한 객관적인 모니터링 기능 부재의 심각성으로 귀결되고, 이것이 인천 지역 히든챔피언의 장기적이고 지속 가능한 성장에 제약을 가하는 위험 요인으로 작용한다.
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the inherent risk factors of Incheon Hidden Champions who have been able to achieve top positions in the global or domestic market. The following findings were discovered in Incheon Hidden Champions. First of all, there was a strong tendency to rely on internal financing. Second, an insider-oriented corporate ownership structure has been established. Finally, the external directors of the board showed a tendency towards passivity. These findings demonstrate the seriousness of the lack of objective monitoring by outsiders. This is a risk factor that hinders the long-term and sustainable growth of Incheon Hidden Champions.
