본 연구는 Q방법론을 이용하여 서구 민주국가에서 등장하는 새로운 언론통제 형태에 대한 국내 언론인들의 태도 유형을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 본 연구는 3개의 태도 유형을 발견하였다. 유형1 ‘정치적 언론인’들은 주로 특정 공영 및 민영 방송사에 종사하는 방송인들이며, 언론사의 경영자와 조직 간부의 통제에 대해 노사 대립 구도에서 나타나는 부정적 태도를 가지는 진보적 사람들이었다. 유형2 ‘조직맨 언론인’들은 주로 지방방송에 종사하는 보수적 언론인들이며, 언론사를 둘러싼 정치, 경영적 환경에 순응하고, 사주와 조직 통제에 대하여 긍정적인 태도를 가지고 있다. 유형3의 ‘전문직업인적 언론인들’은 주로 신문 기자들이며, 기자 정신에 투철하고, 기자로서의 자긍심이 강한 사람들로서, 언론 사주와 조직 통제, 그리고 광고주 통제를 언론의 정도(正道)를 추구하는 입장에서 반대한다. 이런 3개 유형은 전국/지방, 공영/민영과 같은 방송국의 소유구조와 언론사 내부 분위기, 그리고 신문/방송과 같은 매체별 특성에 영향을 받고 있었다.
Abstract
By employing Q-methodology, this study analyzed Korean journalists’ attitudes toward the diverse types of press controls that have recently appeared in advanced democratic countries. As the result of the study, three factors have been found. ‘The political journalists (type I)’ are TV journalists from mostly one publicly-owned network station or one local privately-owned TV station. They show strong antagonism against the owners and the newsroom managers, plausibly stemming from internal conflicts between labor unions and management bodies. ‘The organizational men (type II)’ are conservative and mainly local TV journalists who tend to take the owners’ policies and newsroom guidelines for granted, conforming to the reality of financial and political environments surrounding their organizations. ‘The professional journalists (type III)’ are most likely from financially stable national newspapers, possessing a strong vocational mission and high self-esteem as journalists, so that they disagree with social controls from owners, newsroom managers and advertisers. These journalists’ attitudes toward the dynamics of press controls tend to reflect the differences in ownership structures and internal environment or culture in the media organizations in Korea.
