Abstract
Despite the abundant research about CCTV and campus crime, not much attention has been paid upon fear of crime among members of a campus community and its impact on their attitude toward CCTV on campus. The current study examined whether fear of crime was associated with acceptability of CCTV among faculty/staff and students of one public university in the City of Seoul. The analysis outcomes revealed that fear of crime was positively related with acceptability of CCTV. When the study subjects were divided into the faculty/staff group and the student group, however, the association between fear of crime and CCTV acceptability remained significant only among faculty/staff members. In addition, while students who believed that CCTV was effective in preventing crime were more likely to favor the utilization of CCTV on campus, the expectation about the efficacy of CCTV did not have an influence on the attitude toward CCTV in the faculty/staff group. Finally, policy implications of the study findings were discussed.
