대학캠퍼스 내 대학생들의 범죄두려움 결정요인에 관한 연구

초록

이 연구의 주요한 목적은 대학생들의 범죄두려움에 대한 인식에 영향을 미치는대학 내의 특성들을 파악하기 위한 것이다. 기존 국내 범죄두려움에 대한 연구들은 거주 지역에서의 범죄두려움에 초점을 맞추어 논의되었다. 그러나 20대 대학생들이 학업을 위해 일상적인 생활을 영위하고 있는 대학 내의 특성이 대학생들의 범죄두려움에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대하여는 연구된 바가 거의 없다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 기존 범죄두려움 연구들에서 제시되는 범죄두려움을 설명하는 모델들을 대학이라는 공간에 적용하여 측정도구의 수정을 통해 대학 내에서대학생들의 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인을 검증하고자 하였다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 대구소재 K대학에서 설문조사를 실시하여 분석에 이용하였다. 분석결과 대학생들의 대학 내 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인은 캠퍼스 내의 무질서, 성별, 캠퍼스폴리스 활동에 대한 지원필요성이 통계적으로 유의미한영향요인으로 파악되었다. 이 결과는 범죄두려움에 대한 이론적 모델들 중 취약성모델, 무질서모델, 그리고 지역사회 경찰활동모델을 지지하는 결과이다. 보다구체적으로 살펴보자면, 여자대학생들은 남자대학생들에 비하여 대학 캠퍼스 내에서 범죄두려움을 많이 느끼고 있었다. 또한 기존 연구들의 결과와 마찬가지로캠퍼스 내에서의 무질서 징후가 많을수록 대학생들은 범죄두려움을 많이 느끼는것으로 나타났다. 그리고 이 연구에서 지역사회경찰활동모델을 간접적으로 검증하기 위해서 도입된 캠퍼스 폴리스 활동의 지원필요성에 대한 대학생들의 인식은 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 다시 말해서, 대학 내에서 치안활동을담당하고 있는 자치적인 캠퍼스폴리스활동에 대하여 적극적인 지원이 필요하다고 느끼는 학생들은 범죄두려움을 더 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났는데, 이것은캠퍼스 치안을 위한 자원이 부족하다고 인식할수록 범죄두려움과 관련이 있음을나타내는 결과이다.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to figure out the factors influencing undergraduate students' fear of crime in campus. Previous research in fear of crime has mainly focused on general public's fear in community. Although university campus is a place to lead undergraduate students' ordinary life, it has not been studied the impact of factors of campus on undergraduate students' fear. Therefore, this study to examine the determinant factors of students' fear of crime in campus by using revising proper measurement for university campus through reviewing the examined theoretical models for fear of crime in the literature. To accomplish the goal, this study used the data collected from undergraduate students in K university, Dae-gu City. The results showed that the determinant factors successfully predicting fear of crime in campus were disorder, gender, and necessity of support campus policing. These results support vulnerability model, disorder model,and community policing model. Specifically, female students are more likely to fear about crime in campus than male students. In addition, as a like previous findings, more disorder in campus leads to much high level of fear. Moreover, the perception of the need to support campus policing which was used to examine community policing model successfully predict fear of crime. In other word, Students who believe more support for campus policing in campus feel more fear which means that someone feeling the lack of support for maintaining order in campus are more likely to feel fear.
