치안분야 과학기술에 대한 경찰과 국민의 인식차이와 정책적 시사점

Abstract

With rapid development in technology and growing number of crimes taking advantage of technologies, ways and types of crime have become penetrating and diversified, thus requiring strengthened policing activities to prevent criminals. However, it is difficult to dramatically increase budget in policing and police force, as Korea has faced decline in population growth rates and tax revenue. In this circumstance, it can be an appropriate solution to develop advanced technologies in policing in order to efficiently utilize limited resources and achieve the goal in enhancing security. By examining awareness of the public and police in policing technologies, this research attempts to deliver important implications in security R&D, which is in the early stage. The goal of policing is to maintain public order and security, and since its budget comes from the public, policing should be for the public. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the expectation and demand of the public when it comes to policing activities. The needs of the public in regards to the policing should be clearly understood from the early stage of public security R&D planning, and public demand should work as foundation for setting a successful R&D policy in policing. This research provides political implications for the police by analyzing the demand of citizens and police in technologies of public policing.
