공부의 의미 탐색: 퇴계의 ‘공부론’에 나타나는 즐거움을 중심으로

본 연구는 ‘공부’에 대한 개념사적 접근을 위한 의미 탐색의 일환으로 이루어진 것이다. 연구자는 ‘공부’의 의미에 접근해 감으로써 한국의 교육현상과 관련한 역사 문화적 요인을 거둬들일 수 있고, ‘공부’의 의미는 ‘즐거움’과 관련하여 획득될 수 있는 측면이 있을 것이라고 보았다. 본 연구는 이러한 가정 하에, ‘실천 이론’적 관점에서 퇴계의 ‘생활모습’을 통해 그의 ‘공부론’을 구성해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본론에서는 다음의 두 가지 주제를 다루어 보았다. 첫 번째, 퇴계의 생활모습을 살펴보되, 도산을 ‘장소화’하면서 갖게 된 그의 ‘장소감’의 확인을 통해 살펴보았다. 즉 도산서당이라는 집짓기와 글공부하고 산책하는 생활패턴을 통해 드러난 장소감-흥의 확인으로, 도산이 친밀한 장소로 변해가는 과정을 살펴본 것이다. 여기서는 ‘도산잡영 병기’를 면밀히 분석하여, 퇴계에게 있어 공부의 의미가 즐거움과 연관되는 측면이 있다는 것을 도출할 수 있었다. 두 번째, 살펴본 퇴계의 생활모습을 통해, 퇴계의 ‘공부론’을 ‘즐거움’과 관련하여 구성하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 ‘태극’의 개념은 주요한 원리가 되는 것임을 확인하였다. 이로써 살펴본 ‘즐거움’과 관련한 ‘공부’의 의미는, ‘태극’이 함의하고 있는 ‘스스로 그러함’이라는 ‘自然’의 ‘생명성’에서 찾을 수 있었다. 이제는 ‘이미 주어진’ 시공간, 소이연과 소당연의 일치를 보여야 할 환경이 자연이 아니라 ‘자본주의 시스템’으로 변모해버린 담론의 구조 속에서, 옛 공부의 의미는 어떻게 자리할 수 있을지 생각해 볼 때이다.
Abstract
This study was for an inquiry into ‘the meaning’ on ‘Gong-bu[工夫: self-cultivation]’, which is carried out as a part of an approach of the conceptual history. This study has assumption that Gong-bu may be a factor of historical culture about the Korean education and the meaning of Gong-bu may be acquired in relation to ‘the happiness[樂]’. On this assumption, I intended to construct the theory of Toigye’s Gong-bu through the Toigye’s life from ‘the practical theory’ of view. The main subject consists of the following two themes. First, I investigated Toigye’s life, through the confirmation on a sense of place which is, what he had Dosan space-forming. That is, I investigated the phase that Dosan change into the intimate place. It was possible through the confirmation of ‘Xīng[興]’, a sense of place which has revealed by the building a house said Dosan-Seodang and his life-pattern. This was acquired by analysis about the introduction of Dosan Jabyeong. It was deduced the happiness of gong-bu here. Second, I intended to construct the theory of Toigye’s Gong-bu in relation to 'the happiness' through the Toigye’s life. I confirmed the concept of Tae-geuk[太極: the great ultimate] is the main principle for that problem solving. With this I could understand ‘the meaning of gong-bu’ in relation to ‘the happiness’ can be searched into ‘the vitality’ of Ja-Yeon[自然], involved in Tae-geuk, which can be said 'what is so of itself'. Nowhere, the time and space have been given us already. Also, the circumstance which need to keep the harmony between so-dang-yeon[所當然: the principle of sollen] and so-yi-yeon[所以然: the principle of sein] transformed into capitalistic system in the market. Now is the time we have to think how the meaning of former gong-bu can be arranged in the structure of discourse today.
