새로운 교직윤리의 정립을 위한 실험적 탐색: 전문직 윤리와 천직 윤리의 갈등의 관점에서

Abstract

This paper attempts to do an exploratory study to find a way to develop public criteria for a new teacher ethics that can properly respond to many conflicts recently taking place from school contexts in Korea between teachers and students or teachers and parents or even among teachers themselves. To do this, this focuses on the analysis of teachers' moral dilemma cases collected from the real life in terms of the conflicts between vocational ethics and professional ethics. The premise of this attempt is that the source of these conflicts does not lie in teachers' moral relaxation as usually alleged, but in their deep confusion in teacher identity which seems unavoidable in their transition from the traditional view to the professional view of teacher identity. The analysis of the real life cases leads us into the conclusion that a new teacher ethics needs to seek its source in both vocational and professional ethics which look competing with each other, and that the core ability for the new teacher ethics is teachers' ability to choose one between the two sources depending upon the situation in order to best accomplish educational purpose for their students.
