기존의 북한 연구는 수령제를 인격적 관계의 연장이나 제도적, 비인격적 권력 관계 중 어느 하나로 환원시키거나 북한 체제를 스탈린체제나 탈스탈린체제 중 어느 하나로만 규정하려는 경향이 강했다고 할 수 있다. 신전통주의 모델은 이러한 이분법적 이해를 지양하고, 인격적, 공식적 관계를 경제관리 전반에 관철하고자 한 목표와 그것을 달성하는 카리스마적, 혁명적 방식의 결합에 주목한다. 그런데 북한을 포함해서 모든 현존 사회주의는 신전통주의적이다. 다만 북한은 탈소련화와 함께 스탈린주의를 넘어서는 초(超)스탈린주의화의 길을 택한 경우이다. 즉, 북한의 특징은 스탈린주의의 이식과 모방 수준에 머무르지 않고 스탈린 체제에 내재된 딜레마를 더욱 신전통주의적 방식으로 돌파하는 과정을 통해 나름의 경제관리체제 및 정치체제를 형성시켰다는데 있다.Ⅲ. 신전통주의와 ‘저발전 사회주의 가설’
Abstract
In this article the formation of the economic management system and Suryongje in North Korea is conceptualized as the extreme case of neotraditionalism. The conceptualization helps capture the North Korea‘s idiosyncrasies as well as features commonly found in socialist systems. This paper also argues that North Korea significantly differs from other less developed socialist countries including Romania in not only the background but also the degree and duration of the neotraditionalism.
