Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to elucidate educational meanings of Heidegger's Dasein. The ultimate goal of Heidegger's philosophy is to understand the meaning of being. He makes a distinction between being and beings. While beings are specific ways in which things in the world are understood in a general sense, being is the fact itself that beings are there. Therefore being is always the being of beings. According to Heidegger the human being is the one and only beings that have an understanding of being, namely Dasein, which means the 'there' of being. Dasein is being-in-the-world, which means it is never separable from world involvement. Heidegger argues that Dasein is beyond the immanent consciousness and exists in the world. The concept of Dasein provides a new foundation of education that replaces the modern educational foundation based on the concept of "consciousness."Philosophy to seek truth of being, for Heidegger, has the broadest and deepest pedagogical meaning because he thinks it is possible to recover humanity only after all beings recover their essential meaning and position in the world. Traditional humanism and education wanted to control beings as objects that man can make produce and transform at one's disposition. But it becomes barriers to realizing authentic human being, or makes the nature of humanity instrument. Heidegger describes this characteristic of modern technology as "enframing". Heidegger's ontological education doesn't seek a fund of knowledge, development of mind and reason, individual excellence, or civil virture, but guides students into dignity and depth of being to disapprove theoretical and technological attack. First of all, man has to teach the new way of thinking for this, namely thinking of being. The educated man in Heideggerian sense is a man who looks for ones dignity at defending and protecting truth of being. And the educated man is a man who empowers oneself responsibility to live as neighbor of beings. It is, for Heidegger, philosophy and education.
